As the eldest students at school enter their final year, a great deal of thought, consideration and planning is aimed at the next step in their journey. For many of our girls, this next step will be university, an exciting but unfamiliar prospect. And whilst our Sixth Form and UCAS team can provide endless support with career guidance, applications and interview technique, they will admit that it has been a quite few years since they attended university themselves!
So to give our Year 13s a real insight into what to expect at university today, we invited back the girls of the Class of 2016 to tell the students all about their first year. A fantastic group of alumnae returned to offer their advice and guidance about everything from making friends and joining clubs and societies to budgeting, cooking and, of course, studying. With representatives a wide range of course and universities, our students were able to learn about the importance of being self-motivated in regards to independent study and the benefits of utilising the help on offer from lecturers and tutors. They were told to really make the most of this chance to meet such a varied and interesting cross-section of people, but not to worry if you don’t feel like you’ve made life-long friends by the end of your first week!
It was wonderful to hear how happy and settled our alumnae now are at their chosen universities and how much they are looking forward to the year ahead. We will look forward to welcoming the current Year 13s back in a couple of years’ time to pass on their own wisdom to the students in the years below!
