Three girls from Year 10 took part in this year’s ESU Public Speaking competition held on 13 February at Stonar: Eliza Hyde (speaker), Daisy John (Chair) and Lily Norman (Questioner).
Four schools, Hayesfield, Kingswood, Stonar and RHS took part and the standard was extremely high. All the participants are to be commended for the amount of work they put into their role, and for the eloquence and confidence they displayed on the night. The Questioner and Chair have to work with a speaker from another school so they have to get to know each other at the beginning of the evening and they are very much having to think on their feet in coming up with probing and insightful questions as they have not heard the speech beforehand. The Speaker has to speak for five minutes and although Stonar were declared the best team, Eliza on the left of the picture won Best Speaker, with a very impressive speech entitled 'Social media has totally changed the face of terrorism and how we must fight it'.
Well done to Eliza, Daisy and Lily for putting themselves forward for this event and for representing RHS so magnificently!
