Fanfares in Year 4!

25 January 2019

On Tuesday, Year 4 enjoyed a visit from Miss Caldecott, the brass teacher:

Fanfares are normally used in ceremonies, to welcome Kings and Queens or they are sometimes played on Remembrance Sunday. Fanfares are usually played by brass instruments and percussion because they make louder noises and the sound travels further.

We all had a go at playing an instrument, it was quite hard. We learned how to use our mouths to make higher and lower notes. We learned how to adjust the pitch using our lips, by putting our lips together, corners tight, and blowing a raspberry.

We all got into groups and composed our own fanfares. We used dotted rhythms and it was really fun!
