On Tuesday, we were pleased to welcome Year 5 girls from RHS Juniors, Oldfield Park Juniors, St Stephen's, Batheaston, WASPs, Combe Down, Bathford, Swainswick, Bathampton, St Andrews and Bathwick for a Gifted and Talented in Sport day at the Royal High School.
Led by Year 10s; Skye Bayley, Darcy Gresham, Olivia Smith and Summer Cox, the girls were encouraged to follow their dreams and aspirations to become professional sports performers through workshops.
Eat like a Pro saw smoothies and energy bars being made (and sampled) in Food Tech with Miss Hurley and Miss Bothwell. Train like a Pro saw Miss Shaw and Mrs Roddy our incredible netball gurus teach the girls important strength and conditioning movements. Move like a Pro took place at Lansdown Tennis Club with Head Coach Tom Therrien where the girls discovered saying 'bounce' and 'catch' in time with a ball was often a challenge! Act like a Pro saw the girls use their sporting strengths within a dance setting inspired by our Dance Lead Lucy Thynne. Lead like a Pro was a workshop with Karen Kimura from GDST who travelled from London to run the leadership workshop that saw aspirations from the girls to be leaders of the country, never mind purely in sport!
The aims for the day were to step outside your comfort zone, try something new, make new friends and have fun. All of the girls absolutely fulfilled these aims and left happy and inspired.
Thank you to our workshop leaders and also to the girls for their participation with great enthusiasm, an action-packed day that we hope has inspired the next generation of sporting professionals!
