On Friday 21st of June, a group of Year 10 students went to Stamford Bridge the home of Chelsea Football Club to listen and participate in a number of speeches by inspirational women from various different careers such as soldiers, lawyers, politicians and women’s rights activist.
We started our journey at 6:30am and travelled to London on a luxury coach. When we arrived, we all participated in a massive ice breaker and began writing the names of things and people who inspire us on beach balls and bashing them around the hall to gather more names, this was fun and engaging.
After this starter activity we all headed off to our chosen talks, which were all very interesting. Favourites included: ‘changing the leadership landscape in sport’- Annemarie Phelps and ‘who are you when no one’s there’ – captain Anita Czerbakoi.
We had an amazing buffet-style lunch in the stands and took a group picture of all the GDST girls who took part. After lunch, we had 2 more talks, followed by a very inspiring speech from Dr Shola Mos, who motivated us all to be more confident in ourselves.
A magnificent opportunity and a great day out, we all left feeling empowered and positive. Game-changing – I should say so!
