On Friday, we welcomed 120 Year 5 pupils from Batheaston, Bathford, Bathampton and St Stephens primary schools to join us for a hockey and netball festival.
The aim of the afternoon was to make new friends and work with other pupils from different schools whilst attempting sporting challenges in both hockey and netball. The festival was set up to consolidate skills delivered out to our cluster of primary schools with whom we are working this year and to offer an opportunity for our young visitors to experience a senior school environment.
For many, this was the first experience they have had of playing hockey on astroturf and certainly the added bonus of cookies at the end further consolidated our position as providers of the ‘world’s best cookies’ as said by one of the Bathford Year 5s!
Eleven of our Year 11 students gave up most of their lunchtime and their PE lesson to volunteer their time leading a team around the challenges. Our thanks go to Maame, Alivia, Anastasia, Lauren, Gemma, Sasha, Plum, Angel, Lucy, Diana and Becca for their good humour, enthusiasm and just generally being the supersonic RHS role models that they are.
It did not go unnoticed that these amazing helpers left their volunteering roles to head straight to their English mock exam, and with their Year 11 celebration later that evening they had a busy day!
All in a day’s work though for these girls and particular thanks to Anastasia who stepped in quite literally at the last minute!
A lovely active afternoon of sun, fun and friendships and we look forward to seeing many of our visitors again in the future.
