Royal High Schools’ U16 Squad competed in the County Netball finals on Saturday 25th November. The tournament was played in the netball dome at Clifton College. The top 3 schools from Bath and the top 3 from Bristol, who qualified from the District tournament played earlier in the month, competed for 2 places to go through to represent Avon at the Regional Tournament at the end of January. The competition was tough, every school competing hard for those much-coveted top two places.
Our tournament started well with two dominant performances against Bristol schools Hanham Wood and Badminton, winning 11-7 and 14-6 respectively. We then played a very physical game against Redmaids. They were extremely competitive and fought hard for everything. Royal held their nerve and maintained the edge to bring in a very satisfying 8-7 win.
We then played Wellsway and really struggled to find our form in the first half. After a few changes, we dominated the game but had left too much to do. Frustratingly we lost 11 goals to 12.
We then finished with a must-win game against KES. This was a real test of mental strength rather than physical. The girls managed themselves brilliantly and put out a confident, dominant performance to finish winners at 10-6.
Our collective performance ensured we finished top and walked away as County Champions. The squad of Katie Stubbs, Mia Regan, Poppy Newman, Lucia Guest, Florrie Welch, Jaimee Chadwick, Kate Perkins (Captain), Phoebe Aisher, Susannah White, Alex John and Lauren Morgan will train hard over the next two months in preparation for the Regional tournament in Bournemouth on Saturday 27th January. Well done Royal High’s U16 squad.
