Year 3 participated in a workshop with the Year 10 girls in the Design Technology department at the Senior school.
When we arrived at the workshop we met the technology teacher, Mr Treacher and technician Sarah. First, we tried to build a bridge out of card and make a 1-kilogram weight sit on top without it collapsing. India and I managed to make a bridge that held 3kg!
After that, we were given a booklet and had to name some famous bridges. Then we had a break and some cookies!
When we finished we started to build a truss bridge. It worked out really well! Then we built an arch bridge. It was really challenging. It didn’t work out as well as it meant to but we managed to fix it.
At the end of the session, we watched Mr Treacher destroy some bridges and he tried to balance 15kg on the truss bridge. It did work but when he tried to balance 15kg on the arch bridge it broke in half. It made us scream!
We all really enjoyed the bridge building workshop and learnt a lot about bridge engineering and the amazing DT department.
