Our trip started early on Saturday 23rd March, with 22 girls meeting their teachers at Bristol airport. Brimming with excitement, we said our goodbyes and set off for the departure gate. A short flight and a few hours on a coach later, we finally arrived at our destination in the sunny Alps.
As we entered our hotel, happy memories came flooding back to those of us who had been last year, and we all could barely contain ourselves when we were shown to our dorms and found out our roommates for the week. After lunch of soup and delicious French bread, we bustled down the stairs to the ski fit room to get kitted out ready for skiing the next morning. After that, it was time to head out into the snow for some fresh air, not forgetting, of course, a snowball fight! By the evening, groups from four other GDST schools had arrived and we shared the first of many lovely meals together before going up to bed, looking forward to a good sleep after our 4am start!
When we woke up, we went straight down to breakfast (croissants and pain au chocolat… delicious!) and couldn’t wait to get our kit on and head out into the snow. We were put into groups to suit our level and started to get to know our new companions. There were many falls to begin with but we soon began to grow in confidence and we all enjoyed being out in the beautiful warm sunshine and crisp mountain air!
Each day we had a different ‘après ski’ activity. On our first day of skiing, we relaxed with the film Toy Story 2 in the games room with South Hampstead High School. The following night’s activity was bum-boarding, which was great fun because we made some new friends and went really fast down a very steep hill! Next, it was Quiz Night, where we were split into groups across all the different schools and competed in themed rounds such as ‘Harry Potter’. Several of us were in the winning teams! On Wednesday night it was our turn for shopping and we all enjoyed perusing the array of souvenirs on offer. Then it was Disco night, where we all got a ‘mocktail’ and enjoyed hanging out with the friends we had made in our ski groups. Many of us exchanged contact details and hope to keep in touch!
Each and every one of us made super progress with our skiing during the week. We felt very proud when our ski instructors presented us with our badges and certificates after our final ski session on Friday, and we are all keen to go skiing again!
