International Baccalaureate

At Royal High School, we are proud to be the only school in the local area to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) alongside our A Level option. The IB creates an individual pathway for our students where their individuality can really shine through, allowing them to pursue their passions with tailored guidance and support given throughout their studies.

In our recent IB results in 2021, students achieved a total average point score of 40 out of 45. Four of our students achieved top marks of 45/45 and four students achieved 44/45. Over half of RHS students achieved 40+ points, a feat typically achieved by only the top 10% of students worldwide. Students did well across all subjects but were strongest in English Literature, Languages and STEM subjects including Design Technology, Computer Science and Physics, where all students achieved 7 points.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme places an emphasis on developing skills and attitudes - the ability to think critically, to learn independently, to work collaboratively, to analyse research, to solve problems and to take responsibility for your own learning are all transferable skills that allow easy transition from an IB school into any other higher education setting.

The IB aims to develop young people who will contribute positively to society, locally and globally, both while they are at school and when they enter the world of work.

The IB Diploma Programme allows students to keep their options open. Students study up to six subjects (3 at Higher level and 3 at standard level) choosing from a broad range of subjects. Most students at the age of 16 will find it difficult to narrow down their subject options and the career path they want to take. The IB Diploma Programme gives students a breadth of subjects and keeps them open to learning languages, humanities and the arts, as well as learning sciences and maths.

The IB Diploma Programme is highly regarded by university admissions officers and is one of the few international curricula that is truly globally transferable.
