In a stiff competition between 8 students ranging from Year 7 to Year 13, Clara Holmes won the GDST Bake off competition final that was held at Sheffield High School.
The girls had to bake and decorate a themed showstopper inspired by a favourite heroine. The women ranged from Marie Curie and Florence Nightingale to Rosa Parks and Mary Berry.
Clara’s creation was inspired by Junko Tabei – the first woman to climb Mount Everest. Her cakes were ginger, lime and raspberry sponge topped with snow like meringue. At the summit was a Japanese flag made of sugar paste and it was decorated with handmade stunning cherry blossom flowers complete with stamens.
It was judged by an ex contender of The BBC bake off – Howard Middleton of “custardgate fame” and an owner of a local boutique hotel.
The runner up was a box shaped like a bus that had stunning rose decorated cakes and one chocolate cake to represent Rosa parks.
We are very proud of Clara who obviously made an excellent impression on the judges.
