One School - One Site - One Family
From September 2026, Royal High Bath will adopt a flexible model that uses a middle school structure designed to strengthen confidence, connection and curiosity through Years 5 to 13. This structure brings the final years of primary education together with the early secondary years, creating a smoother, more secure transition into GCSEs and beyond.
Confidence • Curiosity • Connection
Grounded in GDST expertise in girls’ education, our Middle School structure blends the warmth and familiarity younger girls need with the specialist teaching, inspiring facilities and rich opportunities that characterise Senior School life. It has been shaped around curiosity, confidence and meaningful connections; each informed by research into the ways girls learn, grow and thrive.
Flexible Middle School (Years 5-8)
Our Flexible Middle School brings together the very best of primary and secondary education. It combines the nurturing support younger girls need with the specialist teaching, facilities and opportunities that define life at Royal High Bath.
A Nurturing Start, Expertly Delivered
In Years 5 and 6, girls are taught and cared for by a dedicated team of experienced, age‑specialist educators and teaching assistants. Alongside this, they benefit from lessons taught by Senior School subject specialists in purpose‑built classrooms giving them early access to inspiring facilities and high‑quality teaching while still enjoying the security of an age‑appropriate environment.
Part of the Whole School, With Space of Their Own
Younger pupils feel at home in their own dedicated classrooms, breakout spaces and play areas, while also taking part in wider school life. They use shared facilities, join co‑curricular activities and form friendships across year groups building confidence, connection and a strong sense of belonging.
A Seamless Transition, Expertly Supported
Transition is guided by our Head of Middle School, working closely with the Heads of Year 7 and 8, the Deputy Head (Pastoral & Boarding) and the Deputy Head (Academic). Together they ensure each girl experiences:
- consistent academic progression
- strong pastoral support
- continuity that builds confidence
- a smooth, secure step into Year 7
Why It Matters
Our unified Middle–Senior model removes unnecessary breaks in learning. It creates purposeful academic progression and provides earlier access to higher‑order thinking, STEAM pathways and leadership opportunities.
Younger girls benefit from being surrounded by inspiring older role models, while older students develop leadership and mentoring skills that enrich our whole community.
A Transition Programme That Builds Independence
Our enhanced transition programme from Year 6 to Year 7 focuses on:
- wellbeing and emotional confidence
- study skills and organisation
- developing self‑advocacy
- fostering independence
This ensures every girl steps into Senior School feeling ready; academically, socially and emotionally to thrive.
