Announcing the winner of RHSB’s Rising Stars Young Pianist Competition

Senior School, Music

Join us in congratulating 13-year-old Gavin Phelps from Ralph Allen School who won the inaugural RHSB Rising Stars Young Pianist Competition.

Gavin wowed judges with his performance of Yoshinao Nakada’s Etude Allegro and was chosen to join our Music Scholars on Thursday 31 March for a day in London at Steinway’s UK headquarters. Once there, he will attend a masterclass with Martin Roscoe, one of the UK's most loved and respected pianists. Gavin will also be performing his winning piece at our Music Scholars & Alumnae Recital later that evening.

Once back in Bath, Gavin will get to claim the third part of his prize – the opportunity to record his piece in our state-of-the-art recording studio in our Steinway Music School, mastered by a professional engineer and produced by our Director of Music, Mark Bradbury. Three other students, Lucy Armstrong, aged 10 from Colerne CofE Primary School, Estrella Rafael, aged 11 from St Mary's Catholic Primary School and Indira Pandit, aged 14 from King Edward’s School were also invited to join the winner and record their pieces in the studio.
