Weekend in Boarding - Karaoke fun
On Saturday evening all Y7-11 boarders enjoyed an evening of karaoke in the Rebecca Barrell Room with a professional karaoke set and disco lights. They sung mostly in groups and there was one excellent solo. We heard renditions of 'My Heart Will Go On', 'I Want It that Way', 'Call Me Maybe', and 'Baby' to name a few. The girls were enthusiastic singing and had encouragement from some dancing in the audience.
Weekly Reflections: Self-improvement and Marginal Gains
Our Head, Ms Heidi-Jayne Boyes, reflects on the theme of the week. This week’s theme was ‘reflections’ so I talked about a book I read over the break Will It Make The Boat Go Faster? by Royal High Alumna, Harriet Beveridge and Ben Hunt-Davis MBE. Now I am interested in self-improvement and how marginal gains – those small, incremental 1% changes to the way we operate – help us to better ourselves, and, as learners for life, I feel we should all give time to consider how we can be that little bit better at some of what we do.
Weekly Reflections: One Love building a stronger community
This week I had the pleasure of addressing the whole of the senior school in assembly. I applauded the students for their contributions to school life over the last six weeks – it has been very busy with Chinese New Year celebrations and much sport, music and drama taking place – and thanked them, and colleagues, for all their support in helping me to feel so settled. I can’t believe I have only been here for six weeks; in the best way it feels longer.

Our Sixth Form girls stepped back in time to the Roaring Twenties with their Great Gatsby themed winter ball. Organised by our students themselves, the night was a celebration of glitz and glamour, and the Sixth Form community spirit. It was an unforgettable evening of fun and laughter, with fantastic djing from Music Tech student Jemima.Â

Breaking barriers in STEM: How RHB empowers girls to lead the future
Throughout history there have been many women who have greatly contributed to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). While names like Jocelyn Bell Burnell and Jane Goodall are familiar to most, there are many others who may not be as familiar; women who are leaders in their fields, who made major discoveries, and whose work led to critical social and political change. Here at RHB, and indeed within the GDST as a whole, we encourage girls to learn without limits and without traditional gender stereotypes, in the hope that we can develop the future leaders in STEM.
