Royal High Maths teacher raises over £120,000 for for ocean conservation
“ I joined to support my wife’s team and to contribute to a cause that’s deeply important – protecting our oceans for future generations.”Peter Druckes, Maths teacher
One of our inspiring Maths teachers, Peter Druckes, recently took part in a 10-hour charity swim in Margate in support of the Blue Marine Foundation, raising an incredible £121,000 for ocean conservation.
The event, which celebrated World Ocean Day on 8th June, was supported by Olympic swimmer, Becky Adlington, and involved a relay of over 30 swimmers ensuring someone was in the water from 7am to 5pm.
Peter’s motivation for joining was both personal and purposeful:
“I joined to support my wife’s team and to contribute to a cause that’s deeply important – protecting our oceans for future generations.”
As someone from the island of Guernsey, Peter has spent most of his life in and around the sea. He was particularly inspired by Blue Marine Foundation’s wide-reaching work that encompasses creating marine reserves to promoting sustainable fishing practices.
To prepare, Peter swapped his usual sprint sessions for endurance swims and even braved the chilly 14°C sea in Guernsey during half term to acclimatise.
Peter said; “I’m really proud to have been part of it, and even more thrilled that we raised just over £121,000 for the Blue Marine Foundation.”
We’re incredibly proud of Peter’s achievement and the vital impact it will have on our planet’s future. Well done!
