Two Royal High Sixth Form students are celebrating offers from the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Their achievements reflect not only their academic excellence, but also the dedication, curiosity, and resilience nurtured throughout their time at Royal High.

Jemima – History at Oxford, Somerville College

Jemima has been offered a place at Somerville College, Oxford, to study History—a subject she has loved throughout her time at school. She spoke warmly about the encouragement she received from staff across the History Department, highlighting the guidance of Dr Jenkin, Mr Lacey and Mrs Pagnamenta as well as Mrs Hilliam, Head of Academic Extension

From Year 12 onwards, Jemima benefitted from the school’s tailored Oxbridge preparation, including the Sixth Form’s personal statement mentoring system:

“We each had a personal statement mentor based on our subject. Their advice was really useful when it came to writing applications.”

Bea – Modern and Medieval Languages at Cambridge, Queens’ College

Bea has been offered a place at Queens’ College, Cambridge, where she will study Modern and Medieval Languages. Her application included submitting written work and completing an online admissions test—experiences she navigated with confidence thanks to the support of her teachers.

She credits her languages teachers, Madam White and Madam Daguenet, for their encouragement and expertise throughout the process. Like Jemima, Bea began receiving Oxbridge support in Year 12, including personalised guidance on her statement and preparation for assessments.

Looking ahead, Bea is particularly excited about the year abroad that forms part of her course:

“I am excited that I get to spend one year abroad on a placement as part of my course. I will be studying French and Italian, so hopefully half the year in France, half the year in Italy, but we'll have to see.”

Reflecting on her journey, she added:

“The support from the school has been amazing and started really early in Year 12, so we have been supported by our teachers and the careers staff all the way through the process.”

Jemima and Bea’s success is a testament to their hard work and the strong culture of aspiration at Royal High School Bath. Their stories continue a long tradition of students stepping confidently into the next chapter of their academic journeys—supported, inspired, and ready to thrive.

Pride Across the Sixth Form

In addition to these offers, Royal High students have also received early offers from other prestigious universities including Cardiff, Durham, King’s, Birmingham, Exeter, Southampton, Warwick and York.

These stories continue a long tradition of Royal High students stepping confidently into the next chapter of their academic journeys—supported, inspired, and ready to thrive. In 2025, 80% of our students received a place at their first choice university, so we have high hopes that many of these early offers will lead to the next step for our 2026 cohort

Head of Sixth Form, Mandy Ladbury-Webb, shared her delight at the students’ achievements:

“We are incredibly proud of all our students’ university offers including recently for Oxford and Cambridge as well as Cardiff, Exeter and many others. These offers reflect not only academic talent but also the commitment, curiosity, and character our Year 13 students have shown throughout their time in the Sixth Form.”
