Pride. Passion. Performance.

Sport is a huge part of what we do at Royal High School and there is something for everyone, from beginners through to elite performers.

The main aim of the sports department is to nurture the individual talents of all the girls in a 'sports for all' approach. The girls are encouraged, motivated and supported to stretch themselves in a fun and enjoyable environment, in the hope that they will find a sport to pursue for years to come.

This vision is delivered through structured PE lessons, alongside a wide range of lunchtime and after-school sporting activities for the girls to take part in.

Senior School Sport

The sport curriculum across the school is broad and balanced, encouraging participation and enjoyment at all levels of expertise. Investment in developing our sports facilities further will take our provision to yet another level over the next couple of years, adding to our excellent sports hall, fitness suite, netball courts, tennis courts, hockey astroturf and outdoor swimming pool.

As part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, we have unique opportunities to take part in many GDST tournaments competing against 25 schools from all over the country. Competitions are held in gymnastics, cross country, netball, hockey, tennis, rounders, athletics, golf and swimming. The school also regularly competes in national schools’ competitions and in many local leagues as well as against other schools in the local area.

Prep School Sport

In order for our girls to compete successfully, they need to be given a sound foundation and expert tuition through specialist teaching. Nursery and Reception are introduced to many sporting skills through play and performance; Key Stage 1 girls refine skills and apply them to small-sided games; the girls in Key Stage 2 benefit from the full range of sporting opportunities and we work to develop the passion for performance in each area.

Inter-School fixtures, festivals and tournaments in the Bath and Wiltshire area are introduced from Year 3.  Each term we hold Inter-House competitions, completing the year with all-inclusive Sports Days for each age group and a swimming gala for years 3 to 6. These House competitions develop a great sense of loyalty as a team and give each girl an opportunity to perform with pride and passion in each sport.

In addition, we encourage girls to join out of school clubs and share their experiences with others when they come back into school.
