We were delighted to welcome the award-winning author Natasha Farrant, to the Royal High School as part of our World Book Day celebrations.

Speaking to a hall packed full of excited students from Years 5, 6 and 7, Natasha spoke passionately about where ideas come from and about fighting for the things that you believe in. The pupils, some dressed as their favourite book characters, were enthusiastic in their responses to Natasha’s questions, at one point singing a song from Mathilda with the refrain “Even if you are little you can do a lot”!

After the pupils engaged in a lively question and answer session, they were able to get their books signed, before Natasha headed to the library to lead a creative writing workshop for Year 7 students. Benefitting from Natasha’s wide ranging writing experience, students explored how to create effective settings as well as practicing writing from different points of view. Students were able to incorporate many of Natasha’s tips and techniques into their stories before sharing them with her, gaining invaluable advice and input.

Natasha was an inspiring and engaging speaker as well as a warm and generous teacher. We wish her the best of luck with her next book (out in the autumn!) and look forward to welcoming her back to the Royal High in the near future.
