Students from Royal High School Bath scoop multiple awards in Mid Somerset Festival

Senior School

As one of the oldest and most prestigious Festivals in the south west, the Mid Somerset Festival is a firm fixture in the Royal High School Bath calendar. This year, the School hosted the harp class in the new All-Steinway Music School, and several Royal High School students won awards in a variety of categories for their exceptional talent in music, speech and drama, and creative writing.

Musicians Megan Ong, Year 12, and Holly Lancaster, Year 11 achieved success in Music classes. Megan won two awards for Cello/Double Bass solo repertoire and Concerto for any stringed instrument, and Holly came second in the Advanced Harp Repertoire class.

Our students also had success in Speech and Drama and Creative Writing classes. Pepper Woods, Year 7, stood out for her remarkable performances scooping first place in several Speech and Drama categories. Highlights included being selected to attend the Speech and Drama Concert and winning the Evelyn Sandford Repertoire Trophy for the competitor with the highest combined mark in over four performance categories. Year 9 boarding student, Elianah Odim-Ofor, won the Junior Poem category with her outstanding poem, ‘The Sea, The Sky and Me’.

The Mid Somerset Festival was founded in 1902 and has been running continuously ever since, making it one of the oldest festivals in the country. It runs for a full fortnight each March with classes in creative writing, speech and drama, music and musical theatre.
