Week Two Wonders: A Year 7 Blog with Mr Talisker
The Head's Study, Royal High voices, Senior School, Head's Blog

Week two - written by Bella, Louisa and Mr Talisker - the RHB wellbeing puppy.
The second in a series of blogs posts written by Year 7 students and Mr Talisker, the RHB wellbeing puppy with the happiest tail in town!
Each week, Heidi-Jayne Boyes, Head of Royal High, joins Year 7 students and Mr Talisker, to write a blog reflecting on the previous week.
Bella:
Two weeks in, and Royal High School Bath already feels like a second home. I was a bit nervous at first; boarding is a big step! But the other girls have been so kind and welcoming. The older girls have helped me find my way around, reminded me when prep is, and even shared some tips for how to get there on time. I’ve set an alarm now, which really helps! Textiles has been something I have really enjoyed this week; we’ve been learning about Jessica and Maureen producing colourful and abstract art which has been really inspiring.
I’m also really looking forward to Open Morning—I’ll be giving a speech, and I can’t wait to see people listening to me. It feels exciting to be trusted with something so important.
Louisa:
I’ve loved exploring all the new subjects. Drama has been amazing,it’s so fun to be creative and expressive. Maths has also been a surprise favourite - I learnt a trick that amazed me and I thought was really cool!
Open Morning is coming up and I’m excited about the opportunity to be part of it, even though I might have butterflies in my tummy! It’s a big moment, but I know we’ll all support each other. That’s what Royal High is all about.
Bella:
Settling in has been easier than I thought. Everyone is really nice and kind, and there’s a real sense of community here. And of course, there’s Mr Talisker…
Louisa:
This week has felt fun, engaging, supportive, new, exciting, and full of discovery. We’ve learned so much already, not just in lessons, but about ourselves and each other. Royal High is more than just a school. It’s a place where kindness matters, where you’re encouraged to try new things, and to always do our best.
Whenever we see Mr Talisker he wags his tail and it instantly makes us smile. He’s like a little bundle of happiness walking around the school. He’s helped us settle in just by being there - he's calm, friendly, and always up for a cuddle.
Mr Talisker:
Woof! I’m new here too, and I’ve been learning just like the girls. I’ve discovered the best sunspots in the garden and the fastest way to get cuddles in the hallway. I’ve met so many friendly faces—some nervous, some excited, but all full of potential.
Being part of this community makes me feel proud. I might not have a timetable or homework, but I do have an important job: reminding everyone to pause, breathe, and smile. Whether it’s a wag of my tail or a gentle nudge with my nose, I’m here to help the girls feel safe, happy, and confident.
Bella and Louisa:
We’re really proud to be part of this community.
Mr Talisker (tail wagging):
“The girls at Royal High are paws-itively brilliant!”
