Staff Spotlight: Mrs Bolan – Bringing Real-World Maths to Life
Sixth Form, Senior School, Staff Success

This week we are delighted to feature Mrs Bolan
Second in Department for Mathematics at Royal High School Bath. With a rich background in industry and a passion for applied learning Mrs Bolan brings both insight and inspiration to her teaching.
After completing her degree in Systems Modelling and Engineering at the University of Sheffield Mrs Bolan began her career at Rolls-Royce where she used her knowledge of Operational Research to solve real-world problems.Â
"I enjoyed the OR side of my degree so much I took a job at Rolls-Royce to apply that learning in industry" She explains.
After starting a family Mrs Bolan transitioned into teaching and discovered a new passion — helping students explore the practical side of Mathematics.
“ My dream was always to teach some of the Project Management skills I had learned. I was first able to do that when I moved to Corsham School and I have been teaching Decision Maths in Further Maths A Level ever since. It’s still my favourite thing to teach.”
At Royal High School Bath Mrs Bolan is a strong advocate for collaborative learning and encourages students to see Maths as a communicative subject as much as a technical one.
"Maths in the real world requires you to communicate your findings to non-mathematicians. The most important thing we do in Maths is to discuss explain and reason why and then to convince others through clear communication in non-mathematical language."
We are proud to have Mrs Bolan as part of our Maths team helping students build not just strong mathematical understanding but also the confidence to apply it in the world beyond the classroom.
