This week in Food Technology, we held the RHSB Christmas Masterchef 2023 – a cooking competition open to Years 7, 8 and 9.

All participants were given a brief to design and make a light, but skilled, starter for a celebratory Christmas meal.

The girls submitted their designs in advance and then prepared, cooked and served their starters in a one hour time frame.

The standard as ever was exceptionally high and the judges, Mrs Reynolds, Head of Royal High School Bath; Mrs Cunningham, Deputy Head Pastoral; and Mrs Gill, Head of Technology; found decision-making very difficult.

The final results were:-

Ist Place Charlotte Year 8 – Mini Yorkshire puddings with beef and horseradish cream or with sausages, bacon and caramelised onion sauce. Served with three glasses of faux champagne (elderflower cordial and sparkling water).

2nd Place Harriet Year 8 – Scallops with spring onions, garlic and ginger butter and decorated with pea shoots.

3rd Place Hettie Year 8- Stilton, leek and bacon tart with a cheese pastry and decorated with a pastry pine tree.

Well done to all our runners up: Olivia Year 7, Sylvia Year 7, Aalliyah Year 7, Elizabeth Year 8, Milly Year 8, Abbie Year 9.

Charlotte, our winner, was awarded a Mary Berry cook book and 30 house points to Wollstonecraft.
