Coding workshop with CodeBrave

Senior School, Boarding, STEM, Girls in STEM

A group of RHSB boarders were excited to have an opportunity, over the weekend, to take part in a workshop with CodeBrave, a tech education charity working with 12-18 year old children from disadvantaged areas in Lebanon.

Founded by a former RHSB student Clemmie Brown, our links with CodeBrave continue from strength to strength. Our students enjoyed an online workshop with May, another CodeBrave educator who taught them how to programme microbits to create a ‘tug of war’ game as well as to create a pedometer. As one of the students said: “It’s cool learning how to create code and see the results of the program we wrote work straight away.”

Mrs Lycett, Head of Computing explained: “We hope to roll these workshops out with other year groups and will continue to work with CodeBrave – the social enterprise element of what they do resonates with our ethos, and nearly 50% of the students they teach are young women and girls. Their education programme for schools and individual tutoring funds their social enterprise and support for disadvantaged children. This kind of skills-based teaching is essential for our students, and we will continue our links with CodeBrave.”
