Cookery challenge for Reception pupils

Nursery and Prep School, Prep

It was a very proud moment; well done, Reception! You are definitely ready for Year 1!”
Mrs Fernandez, Head of Early Years, Royal High Bath Prep School

This week, the girls in Reception were set a very tricky challenge in cookery. Each week the girls have been following their teacher, Mrs Fernandez, step by step to make sweet and savoury foods. They have been making so much progress that she felt they were now ready to move on to the next stage. So after watching a demonstration by Mrs Fernandez, our Reception pupils were asked to make some sweet treats on their very own. The girls now had to work independently to select ingredients, measure them out, ensure everything was mixed well and then finally spoon the mixture into cupcake tins - and they did not disappoint!

Our Head of Prep, Ms Lilley, visited the class and could not believe how well the pupils were doing, not just at taking turns with ingredients but their focus and concentration on the task at hand.

At our Prep School, we focus on keeping our pupils highly engaged and active in their learning to inspire them to develop independent thinking and problem solving from an early age, whether it involves outdoor play, STEM-based activities or in this instance, a cookery lesson. Our happy and nurturing environment provides the perfect grounding for learning and develops every aspect of the child, helping them to grow into well-rounded individuals.
