Year 8 UKMT problem solving fun day

On Friday 25 March Years 7 and 8 took park in a United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) problem solving fun day. The students worked in teams to complete two separate activities; they first worked in teams of four to complete a maths crossword where they had to communicate effectively to unravel the clues, many of which relied on them having found answers to other questions in order to solve the clue.
They then split into pairs for a fast paced maths relay challenge. Without being able to communicate verbally to their opposite pair, they had to solve a maths problem and provide the answer to their team mates, so they had the vital information with which to answer their clue, thus passing the key number to pair 1 to let them answer the next question.
